Memorializing an icon

You feel the pressure to be accurate with every story. Even the shortest brief requires you to AC and cq. But never before have I felt more pressure to be accurate than when working on this story about Nelson Mandela. Maybe it is because almost every source I have interviewed has asked me to send them a copy when it is printed. Or maybe it is because Mandela is such an icon in the West and anything written about him, especially at such a sensitive time, is bound to be more read and more scrutinized than the average city council story (sorry Scott). Either way, memorializing an icon like Mandela is nerve-wracking, but also fascinating and incredibly rewarding.
